Yesterday, in class, I introduced the students to metric staircase--a shortcut to help them make conversions using the metric system. They had some problems to practice last night, and then we checked over the problems in class together.
Today, we made a mnemonic device to help remember the units of measurement in the metric staircase. Then, the students made their own metric staircase to use when completing metric conversions. For homework tonight, the students are to finish their metric staircase. It must have all of the steps glued down in order, the number of basic units for each step, their mnemonic device written in, and a picture drawn and colored on their background.
